Why do dogs dig holes
Before you can stop the behavior, you must find out why they do it. Digging holes is normal behavior for dogs, but some carry it to extremes.
The most common reason for any dog behavior problem is boredom. We take animals that are destined to spend time outdoors in the woods, fields and restrict them to the home or small yard for hours end. Canines are social animals, and they live in packs in the wild. Often we leave the same animals throughout the day.
When you think about it, it is unnatural to them the situation. Is any wonder they're bored? A bored dog is a dog behavior problem just waiting to happen, because the return to action, such as digging is concerned.
Some dogs just love to dig. Some breeds such as Terriers, Hounds and retrievers are more prone to dig a hole than others, although all dogs will do it.
Digging is instinctive behavior for canines. In the wild, that store food by burying it. They also dig dens for shelter for their puppies, and to protect themselves from weather extremes.
How can I Stop Dogs From Digging?
Keeping it occupied a large part of the problem. People assume that there are many dogs available only through the exercises in the yard, but this is not true. See a dog pacing up and down the fence, but it's nervous behavior, which does not really burn off their energy. It is important that your dog has a long walk every morning and evening. If you do not have enough time, consider hiring a dog walker.
If there is a park near the dog, take him there every day to run and play with other pups. This is a great way to use it to fulfill its energy and social needs as well.
Give him his own corner of the yard to dig, dig, or make it down. When you catch him digging where it should not, say "NO" loudly, redirect it to their own territory, and glory, when he was living there. Do not make the mistake of punishing him for later digging behavior. Canines in the present life, and he does not understand what you have to punish him.
If the dog starts to dig in the garden when you're there, squirt him with water gun, making sure that you do not know, that did it. Or turn on the sprinkler. You may even want to put the timer on the sprinkler so that it is a surprisingly, if you do not exist. This is effective because he thinks the garden is doing to do it, you can not.
The time for your pet
Here's some food for thought. Your dog loves the attention. The best to give him ten minutes a day devoted to training him. Make training fun and lively. He loves to be with you, and enjoy learning new things that stimulate his mind. By ending the problem of bored dog, you can often stop the dogs from digging.
